So what does folklore have to say about what a couple should do if they want to figure out how to conceive a boy instead of a girl? Some of the following old wives tales have ended up having something in common with later “scientific” advice like The Shettles Method, while others, like many such tales, are just downright strange. Whatever you believe here are some of the most common things that supposedly increase your chances of conceiving a boy:
- The male partner should always initiate intimacy
- Females should worry a lot
- Potential Dads of male babies should drink lots of soda
- Mom to be should eat lots of red meat and salty snacks
- Only make love at night on odd days off the month
- Make sure the man climaxes first
- Make love when there is a quarter moon
- Point your head to the north while having intercourse.
- Stay on your back after intercourse to give the “boy” sperm a chance to get to the egg.
- Women should sleep on the left of the bed
So you want to conceive a boy? To sum it up ladies: You should begin the night with a large steak and a bag of pretzels while hubby sloshes back a six pack of Coca Cola, on a night when there is a quarter moon in the sky and you should in no way reveal you are interested in sex tonight (it has to be his move remember?). Also, take a compass to bed so you can figure out which way is north and then remember to fall asleep on the proper side of the bed. Confused? That’s good because you are supposed to be worrying anyway.
