How to Conceive a Boy the Shettles Way

Are you trying to find out how to conceive a boy?  One of the best known – and debated – book on gender selection ever written was “How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby” penned by one Dr. Landrum Shettles, MD, back in the 1960s. Dr Shettles is a veteran OB/GYN so he does have the medical training and knowledge that meant he was not simply writing a “quack” book. In his book (which he updated and revised “for the 21st century” in 2006), he theorized that one could use various natural techniques for effective choosing whether to conceive a boy or to opt for a girl.

His theory goes that Y-chromosome sperm, those that result in a boy at conception are faster and smaller than their X-chromosome carrying counterparts, although far less hardy.

Intercourse should occur as close to ovulation as possible, so definitely abstain for four or five days prior to ovulation. Using methods like basal temperature readings and monitoring cervical mucus can help determine the actual timing to a certain degree, as can store bought ovulation kits.

Having intercourse in a position that allows for the deepest possible penetration is another recommendation that Shettles makes for those trying to conceive a boy. He advocates rear entry (doggie style). The logic here is that sperm will be deposited as close to the entrance of the cervix as possible, giving Y-chromosome sperm the head start that they need (as they are faster, but die off quickly).

To increase their chances of conceiving a boy, ladies will be delighted to learn that Shettles advises that it is essential that the she has an orgasm during intercourse. This he says increases the alkaline levels in the vagina which is a plus for the Y-chromosome sperm.
