Microsort Sperm Separation – A Costly Option to Conceive a Boy

boy imagesIf your hearts are truly set on the idea of conceiving a boy then the scientific technique that is generally agreed to be the most effective is the Microsort Sperm separation method. The procedure known as the Ysort (for producing a boy rather than a girl) is generally agreed to have a success rate of about 76%, good but of course far from perfect. This Microsort technique is actually much better at producing girls, as the opposite of the YSort – the XSort – has an amazing 91% success rate.

To explain it in the simplest terms possible, the basic Ysort technique separates out the Y sperm from the unwanted X sperm using a method called flow cytometry. Once the sperm sample has been separated in this manner the female partner is treated by IVF or IUI, depending upon the particular clinic’s policy and the woman’s medical history with the hope that a baby boy will be conceived.

The Ysort is far from a perfect one though. A sorted sperm sample designed to help a couple conceive a boy rather than a girl on average still contains about 24% X sperm. This means that the odds of conceiving a boy are hugely improved over those that Nature has to offer, but nothing is guaranteed.

The Ysort is not a cheap procedure to undergo and may require several attempts before a pregnancy of any kind is achieved. The procedure also receives criticism of an ethical nature and for that reason the number of clinics that offer the technique for family planning purposes are limited.
