There are those who strongly believe (and there is some scientific evidence to back them up) that the foods that a woman eats while trying to conceive play a role in determining what the sex of the baby will be.

So if you are trying to conceive a boy what foods should you be including in your diet and which should you be avoiding? Here are some of the most common diet recommendations for those women who would prefer a boy over a girl:

More calories – One study conducted by the researchers at the Universities of Essex and Oxford in the UK found that women who had boys had a higher calorie intake on average than women who gave birth to girls (the official figure was 2,413 versus 2,283). This does not mean that you should pig out in an attempt to conceive a boy though, since being overweight reduces the chances of conception occurring at all, but slightly increasing your caloric intake can increase your chances of conceiving a boy.

Don’t skip breakfast – The same researchers found that women who made a habit of having breakfast every day, especially cereal, were more likely to conceive a boy. Research has shown the cereal connection to be quite strong, as one study found that women who ate a bowl of cereal very day had an 87% percent higher chance of conceiving a boy.

Go bananas – People have been saying for decades now that following a diet high in potassium in is good for improving your chances of conceiving a boy. There are other good sources of potassium if you don’t like bananas though yogurt, broccoli and even white rice are all rich in potassium too.
